Therapy That Supports
Your Whole Self

Body-Centered, Trauma-Informed Care for Parents in Seattle, WA and Online Across Washington State

You don't have to do it on your own. Whether you're carrying old trauma, navigating the chaos of new parenthood or just feeling like something in your life needs to shift, there's a path forward that doesn't require you to talk your way through everything.

Sofiya Ko is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) whose work is rooted in Somatic, EMDR, Expressive Arts approaches. All three of these methods work in alignment with the neurobiology of your brain and the wisdom of your body.

Eye Movement desensitization & reprocessing

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, research-backed approach for working through trauma that feels "stuck" in your nervous system.

Rather than talking through the same story over and over, we engage bilateral stimulation to help override your nervous system's learned response to a trigger and release the distress that physically arises, so that old memories and experiences stop hijacking the present. It's an accelerated methodology that has been clinically shown to produce results within 6-12 sessions.

Perinatal & Postpartum Therapy

The pregnancy and postpartum period can be transformative, overwhelming, isolating, and beautiful. Often the ups and downs come in unexpected waves big enough to knock you down.

The goal of Perinatal & Postpartum Therapy is to provide education about the emotional and physical shifts happening in your body, to help you recognize the signs of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), and build realistic coping skills so you can feel stable in this new season of life.

Somatic Therapy

Talk therapy can be great, but you can’t talk your way out of trauma. Somatic Therapy works with the body directly: noticing physical sensations, learning and decoding the language of your own nervous system.

If you've ever found yourself triggered in ways that don't make logical sense, or you feel stuck even after years of "working on yourself," this approach can help you work with your nervous system rather than against it by helping you track and respond to the natural cues of your body.

Expressive Arts THerapy

As children we jump at the chance to express ourselves, but somewhere along the way we learn to limit our creativity and only express in ways we feel “skilled” or “good”. Expressive Arts Therapy invites all forms of personal expression, like drawing, writing, movement, sound, and collage, to help you relay your subjective inner experience onto an external outlet.

This therapeutic approach is playful, surprising, and helps you feel seen, understood and witnessed in a way “talking through it” can’t.

Which Therapy is right for me?

It's completely normal not to know which therapeutic approach is best for you. It's my job to help you weigh your options!

As a multi-modal clinician, most of my sessions weave a few of these approaches together, depending on your therapeutic goals and what's alive for you that week.

I encourage all potential clients to sign up for a free 20-minute video consultation, where we can discuss your goals, how these approaches may align, and assess if we may be a good fit.
